BARCELONA, Spain -- Barcelona conceded a second goal to Getafe forward Angel Lafita in injury time to stumble to a deflating 2-2 draw at home on Saturday, dealing a major blow to its hopes of repeating as Spanish league champion. Lionel Messi volleyed in Dani Alves pass for his 28th league goal this season in the 23rd minute, only for Lafita to level after a rare attack for Getafe in the 37th. Substitute Cesc Fabregas appeared to put Barcelona back on track when he initiated a move that ended with Alexis Sanchez scoring in the 67th. But Barcelonas brittle defence again betrayed it in the final moments when Lafita charged in to head home Jaime Gavilans cross and grab a draw that silenced the Camp Nou. Out of the Champions League and Copa del Rey, Barcelonas chances of defending its domestic crown are fading fast. The Catalan club was left three points behind Atletico Madrid before the leader visits Levante on Sunday. There are two more rounds after this weekend. Real Madrid trails Atletico by six points but has a game in hand. Despite still being mathematically alive, Barcelona appears to have given up the title. "This hasnt been a good season, nor is this the way we wanted it to end," Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino said. "The responsibility lies with the manager. Our expectation was to stay in it as long as we could. We did so until today. If we havent been able to beat a team fighting to stay up, then we dont deserve to be champions." Barcelona has been sub-par in the second half of the season. After dropping just four points through the first 18 league games under Martino, it has dropped 18 points in the last 18 rounds. Martino, who is widely expected to be fired, added, "Sometimes you dont think its necessary to ask for a second chance because you dont deserve one." Elsewhere, Celta Vigo won 2-0 at Osasuna, Elche won 1-0 at Malaga, and Valladolid edged Espanyol 1-0 as it tries to escape the relegation zone. Barcelonas first home game since former coach Tito Vilanovas death last week from throat cancer featured a commemorative video, an enormous banner with the message "Tito, Always Eternal," and a minutes silence before kickoff. Barring slipups by Atletico and Madrid, Barcelona wont win a major title for the first time since the 2007-08 season, before former coach Pep Guardiola took over with Vilanova as his assistant. Vilanova led the team to the league title last year in his only season as coach. Barcelona dominated the outclassed Getafe for the first 80 minutes, but its lack of scoring touch cost the host dearly. Lafita converted two of Getafes three scoring opportunities, while Pedro Rodriguez and Alexis were particularly off target for a Barcelona side that generated a plethora of empty shots. Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets said the players were the "only ones" to blame. "We have committed mistakes that are not befitting players who want to play in this league. We wont win any titles this year, and I hope that serves the team in years to come." Getafe rested one point above the relegation zone. In Pamplona, Manuel "Nolito" Agudo scored his third brace in as many games for Celta. He struck first in the 20th with an exquisite chip shot and followed that by driving in a cross from an angle in the 34th. Celta climbed into eighth place while Osasuna was left level on points with Valladolid and clinging to safety. Elche moved four points above the drop after winning at Malaga thanks to Garry Rodrigues goal in the 11th. Elche had two players shown direct red cards. Reserve goalkeeper Antonio Rodriguez was booked for coming off the bench to argue with Malagas players in the 68th, and defender Alberto Botia was sent off in the 82nd for kicking the ball into a prone Malaga player after a foul. Valladolid defender Antonio Rukavina scored in the 20th and Espanyol was never able to mount a comeback, with Luis "Pizzi" Afonso dismissed with a second yellow card in the 72nd. Valladolid striker Manucho injured his leg in the second half and had to carted off. Coming off a 6-0 drubbing at Chelsea on Saturday, Arsenal endured another demoralizing result after rallying for a 2-1 lead -- only to concede a fluke equalizer.MONTREAL - Carey Price was rock solid in his first full game back since abruptly leaving last years Stanley Cup playoffs with a knee injury.Price stopped 29 of 30 shots he faced in Montreals 2-0 loss to the visiting Washington Capitals in NHL pre-season action on Sunday. Its nice to get a full workload, to see some shots, work on my timing a little bit, said Price, who conceded the game-winner to Washingtons Joel Ward with 89 seconds remaining in the third period. Its something that really leaves you during the summertime. Its probably the hardest thing to get back, that pace of the game.Price kept the Canadiens (3-1-0) in the scoreless contest with several key saves, including robbing Nathan Walker mid-way through the second period. Price added back-to-back stops in the third period on Washingtons Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. It feels good to get back into it, said the native of Anahim Lake, B.C. Just getting some game action obviously helps. Its critical to get that timing back.Price played just over 30 minutes in Montreals 3-2 overtime victory against the Colorado Avalanche earlier this week, allowing two goals on 10 shots before being replaced by backup goaltender Peter Budaj. This was the first time Price played a game from start to finish since Montreals Game 7 victory over the rival Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference semifinal last May. The Canadiens goalie was injured in the first game of the following round when New York Rangers winger Chris Kreider slid into him skates-first. Montreal was eliminated from that series in six games.Price played unbelievable, said right-winger Dale Weise of Sundays 29-save performance. Its just a shame we couldnt bail him out. After a sloppy and penalty-filled affair a€” a total 12 minor penalties were dished out by the referees a€” Ward scored the winner, his first of the pre-season, at 18:31 of the third period when his backhanded saucer shot flew into the net just out of the reach of Price. We knew that the goal was going to be a bad bounce, or a greasy one like that, said P.K. Subban, who finished the game with a minus-2 rating. At the end of the day, for some of us, its only our second game. We have to slowly build. The Capitals (3-2-0) went 4-for-13 on the power play in their first four pre-season games coming into this one, but were kept off the score sheet with the man advantage on Sunday.Washington played a total 10:14 with an extra skater. Barry Trotzs men squandered five power-play opportunities in the first two periods, and another one in the third a€” a five-minute major to prospect Jarred Tinordi for elbowing.Tinordi, who played 22 games with the Habs last year, was shown the exit two minutes into the final period when he hit an unsuspecting Nate Schmidt in the face with his shoulder.dddddddddddd. With Schmidt lying on the ice, Capitals forward Chris Brown dropped the gloves and fought Tinordi.New head coach Trotz, previously with the Nashville Predators, loved that Brown came to the defence of 23-year-old Schmidt. You have to pick up your teammates, and that was a big example, said Trotz, who was hired by the Capitals in May. We never want to leave a man behind, type of thing. Schmidt took a big hit, and the cavalry came out to help him. Thats the mentality you want.Tinordi was given five minutes for elbowing, five minutes for fighting, and a 10-minute game misconduct. The 22-year-old had already been penalized twice in the match a€” for tripping and for kneeing in the first period. He ended the game with a grand total 24 penalty minutes.Hes so big, and hes such a good skater for a big man, said Weise of Tinordi. Thats bound to happen. Thats the game he has to play, and thats the game we want him to play. If he starts throwing a couple more of those, guys are going to be more careful coming across the blue line.Added Subban of the hit: From what I saw, it looked pretty clean. I dont think he got his elbow up or anything like that. I like it when he plays like that. Its fun to watch. Hes a big guy, and he throws his weight around.Backup goaltender Justin Peters stopped all seven shots he faced for Washington before being replaced by Braden Holtby mid-way through the second period. Holtby made an additional 11 saves for the combined shutout. One minute after Ward broke the deadlock, Brooks Laich added a second goal for the Capitals in an empty net.Prior to the match, Montreal assigned 17 players to the AHLs Hamilton Bulldogs, including Tim Bozon, Patrick Holland, and Charles Hudon. Forward Nikita Scherbak was assigned to his junior team, the Western Hockey Leagues Everett Silvertips.Montreal opens its season on Oct. 8 against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre.Notes: Lars Eller played in his first pre-season game after missing the teams first three with a lower-body injury. a€| Ovechkin, who led the NHL in power-play goals last year, didnt register a point after scoring twice his last time out. a€| It took Montreal 11:17 to register its first shot of the game, a backhand shot by Alex Galchenyuk that Peters saved easily. a€| Four players still taking part in Montreals training camp have never played a regular season NHL game: Darren Dietz, Sven Andrighetto, Jacob de la Rose, and Jiri Sekac.
