NASHVILLE -- Ryan Kesler is finding his scoring touch, and that is very good news for the Vancouver Canucks. Kesler scored a pair of third period goals, leading the Canucks to a 3-1 victory over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night. Kesler has four goals in his last two games. With the game tied at 1 in the third, he scored twice from just outside the Nashville crease. "It was a battle and there wasnt a lot of room out there, but we found a way to win again, and thats what we need to keep doing," Kesler said. "Youve got to fight to get to those tough areas and we did tonight." Kesler scored his first at 7:37. From the left side, Jason Garrisons slap shot was stopped by Nashville goaltender Marek Mazanec, but Kesler outmuscled Nashvilles David Legwand for the rebound and beat Mazanec with a wrist shot. "Both teams were playing, and we were matched pretty evenly," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "It came down to who was more detailed, disciplined, and who was winning all of those 1-on-1 battles." Kesler struck again at 14:15. With the Canucks on a power play, Kesler collected the rebound of another shot by Garrison in the low slot and backhanded it past Mazanec. "Kesler has been playing really well, he was probably our best player tonight," Vancouver coach John Tortorella said. "He put us on his shoulders there and I thought led the way." Brad Richardson also scored for Vancouver, which has won three of four. Colin Wilson scored for Nashville, losers of three straight. Richardson scored the games first goal at 15:24 of the second period. From the goal line to the right of the Nashville net, Richardson passed to Dale Weise in the right circle. Weises shot was stopped by Mazanec, but the rebound came right to Richardson, and he banked in a shot off of Mazanecs left leg pad. On the same day he was named the NHLs Rookie of the Month for November, Mazanec made his 11th straight start in goal for the Predators. Wilson answered back just 30 seconds after Richardsons goal. Skating through the slot, Patric Hornqvist slid a nice pass to Wilson on the right post. From there, Wilson had an easy tap-in past Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo for his fifth goal of the season. "It was a typical game that we play against these guys; low-scoring, tight checking game," Luongo said. "It was tough to get the lead and give it up 30 seconds later, but guys stuck with it. We had a big third period and the power-play goal was huge for us there." Wilson has scored in consecutive games for the first time this season. "Its good to get that goal," Wilson said. "I felt we still had a chance in the third. We have to start scoring." After missing three games with an upper-body injury, Hornqvist has an assist in each of his last two games. Vancouver defenceman Alexander Edler did not return to the game after the first period. Tortorella said that Edler had a lower-body injury and is day to day. Join us as we bring it to life! He joins Don Bradman (who did it three times), Matthew Hayden (twice), Jack Fingleton and Neil Harvey in being the only Australians to do so – and Smith becomes the first ever to score three in a row as captain.Resuming day two at the SCG in Sydney on 82 not out, Smith added a further 35 runs to hit 117 in Australia’s score of 572-7 declared. “It is a staggering performance,” said Butcher. “When he started out in the 2010/11 Ashes series – everybody thought this guy can’t play, he’s a joker.“But he’s gone from strength to strength aand just doesn’t show any signs of stopping.dddddddddddd”Smith was dismissed just before lunch on day two, edging through to the keeper attempting a drive off Umesh Yadav. That left Australia on 415-4 with two new batsmen at the crease after the other not out batsman overnight, Shane Watson (81), perished a few overs prior. But Shaun Marsh (73) and Joe Burns (58) further pressed home Australia’s advantage and Smith opted to declare after tea and have a bowl at India – the visitors finishing the day on 71-1. Butcher says the way Smith has dealt with the added pressure of leading the side has been particularly impressive.“Hand him the captaincy, and what does he do – he just keeps scoring hundreds and breaking records on the way,” he said.“He’s come from nowhere to lead his country and he’s the first name on the teamsheet now for a team that’s playing brilliant cricket. You can’t speak highly enough of him.”If Australia bat again in this Test, Smith has the chance to break another record – if he scores nine runs or more in the second innings, it would be the most runs by an Australian in a four-match Test series, passing Ricky Ponting’s record of 706 which also came against India, in 2003/04.“The guy is in great form at the moment,” Butcher added. “He will go through a bad spell again, as everybody else does, and people will point to his slight idiosyncrasies he has when he’s batting and say that’s why.“But the fact of the matter is, when the bat comes down, it comes down square with the ball and with ferocious power.“And he just seems to have a real hunger for run-scoring, when he’s got himself into good form, he hasn’t wasted it.”Watch day three of the fourth and final Test between Australia and India live on Sky Sports 2 from 11.30pm.
